Makoto Iwaki, Executive Creative Director, Honda

Makoto Iwaki is Executive Creative Director of Honda R&D Co., Ltd. responsible for styling design of all automobile models of the Honda brand since 2016.

He joined Honda R&D as an exterior designer in 1991. He joined a number of projects such as the 6th generation CIVIC and the first HR-V and served as an exterior design project leader on the first FIT/Jazz and the 4th generation LIFE.
He later worked as Chief Designer of the Advanced Design Division and created few concept models including CR-Z. He then served as Division Director of Honda R&D Americas in California for 3 years from 2009. After returning to Japan, he oversaw the design of the whole series of the 10th Generation CIVIC.

He graduated from Aichi University’s Faculty of Art in 1991 with a major in industrial design.
