Kazunori Yamauchi, a game creator in Japan, is renowned for the Gran Turismo game series that has sold over 80 million units worldwide. Joining Sony Music Entertainment in 1992, he was involved in the startup of Sony PlayStation. Transferring to Sony Computer Entertainment in 1994, he produced his first title – MotorToon Grand Prix – and in 1997 released the first iteration of the Gran Turismo franchise.
Yamauchi established Polyphony Digital Inc. in 1998 and serves as its President. He has served as an Honorary Judge of Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance since 2008, been a board member for the Japan Car of the Year awards since 2001 and received Autoweek’s Car Culture Award in 2018 for his contributions in inspiring generations of automotive enthusiasts.
